Ngorongoro Crater的点评
点评：Amazing experience in the crater. We arrived here from the Serengeti. We stayed for about 7 productive hours. We saw everything we wanted to see minus Leopard and Cheetah (which we saw in the Serengeti--and also there are no Giraffes in the crater). The treat was 13 sightings of Rhinos--both black and white (Wyde); raptors, and birds.
Having a good guide makes a difference and we had Raja from Shimesa that we had arranged through Turaco (see my review of Turaco). The crater is a great way to see the big 5 and the ugly 5 in a single day (if you get lucky). It is compact and dense with wildlife. Zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo in a queue or roaming and crossing small streams makes for great experiences. Marabout and baboons stealing food from unexpecting or unaware visitors is also a regular sight. Look for elephants in the forests as you enter or exit crater. Very different weather and vegetation regions create fabulous visual and physical experiences.
Have a mask as the crater has fine soil and as some guides go faster than the posted speed limit creating clouds of fine white powder like dust that gets everywhere. Having a minimum of 8x40 binoculars will help see animals as you cannot offroad (that is a good policy). There are plenty of facilities and picnic areas to stop and enjoy the view. There is a coffee and snack shop by the main picnic area by the fresh water lake.
