D. History: Philae Temple Complex is located in an island created by Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser. Original location of the Temple was located on Philae island. During the construction of Aswan Dam in 1960s with the supervision of UNESCO it was dismantled and reconstructed at the current location in Agilkia Island. The complex has number of temples built between 25th to 30th ancient Egyptian Dynasty. The most prominent one is dedicated to ISIS and was built by Ptolemy II around 240 BCE. Subsequently, during Ronan Empire's ruke of Egypt, number of constructions was also carried out by them. This makes the complex unique with coexistence of two different style of construction.
We visited this Temple on 29th December 2025 in the evening. A 15 minutes motor boat ride took us to the island. As we entered the complex the massive pylons and colonnade impressed us. The main attraction is the SIS temple partly converted and modified by the Romans as church. The Kiosk of Trajan, a roofless structure is also beautiful to watch. The view of the Lake Nassir with its blue black water is a visual treat.
