点评:I’m sharing a somewhat specific perspective that won’t apply to every visitor to the beautiful Wat Arun, so please take that into consideration. As an electric wheelchair user, barrier-free access to the grounds is doable but far from complete. I wished I was fit enough to walk up the steps to the middle parts of the temple, as is always allowed for tourists, but not this time! I CAN walk, but it’s sometimes difficult.
I recommend coming EARLY, because there will be crowds—Bangkok is the most-visited city on Earth according to most sources. So many people dress in traditional Thai clothes for photoshoots as well, which can almost make it more crowded than it actually is. There are guides you can hire to learn more about the monument’s history in greater depth, and food and souvenir vendors are always around. Stay hydrated! Typical visits probably last from 1-2 hours here, but I only stayed about a half hour. I was not charged an admission fee, but I don’t know about how the rules work for others.
As a wheelchair user, I sincerely wish someone could install a ramp to access the pier out to the Chao Phraya. I used the electric ferries to get to and from, and it was highly disappointing when I discovered the massive steps from dock to land. Friendly Thai people could assist, but there’s an obviously better way: put out a ramp!
One visit to this iconic Bangkok destination is plenty for me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t recommend it to other visitors!
