点评:The next stop was a few minutes drive away, the ancient city of Salamis. This was a city founded in the 7th century that made its fortune by exporting copper from nearby mines. It was an important Greek and then Roman city before being destroyed by Arab raids in the 7th century. The site was quite extensive although only a small portion has been excavated. When we visited it looked absolutely beautiful, coated in bright yellow flowers. Some parts - such as the gymnasium and the theatre - have been restored, others not so much so. We probably spent an hour exploring the site, the baths and theatre being particularly impressive. We saw a small section of decorative mosaics and a small fresco on a doorway ceiling. There was no route or signposts as such so it was really a case of wandering around, luckily with a guide. There were lots of very happy stray dogs on the site, very social as they made a point of saying hello to everyone.
