点评:Yes, you have to pay to access the mountain lookout/viewpoint; yes you might be asked to pay if you pull off just to use the bathroom; yes you might find yourself there at the same time as a tour bus approaching or departing Stykkishólmur, or when they aren’t manning the entry cabin. But IT IS private property, and even though there are countless examples of touristy things that have been commercialized worldwide over the years…this isn’t one of them. They are humble people who want to allow visitors to get a peek at a really cool peak, with a panorama view, without all the fanfare of the typical Iceland bucket list stops, so I’M GOOD WITH THAT. And having that bathroom there actually proved quite clutch on our journey that day.
There’s a bit of an uphill walk involved, maybe 5-10 minutes or so, but it definitely qualifies as a roadside attraction in the sense that it’s not a several-mile hike to the destination. We actually really enjoyed this little pull-off, and the owners take pride in presenting another beautiful little slice of what Iceland has to offer, with neat relics on display including references to the Norse origin of the mountain. Oh, and the chill doggie of course!
