Beautiful…but paradise lost?

点评：This resort is located in a very nice setting with a sweeping beach, snorkelling options right out front, surfing and a spectacular golf course just minutes away. The staff are brilliant and despite the ‘entrapped’ environment, meal and drink costs are within the realms of acceptable.
So why not 5 stars? Well unfortunately, the beautiful beach has fallen victim to the burgeoning problem of rubbish. I know this issue is complex, with local communities living in poverty on either side of the resort, lack of recycling infrastructure and education, but we all need to take responsibility for fixing this. The amount of plastic washed up onto the beach and discarded in the surrounding jungle is a disastrous crying shame. The resort does incentivise guests to volunteer for rubbish collection off the beach but that’s only once per week. I personally filled four bins full of plastic within an hour!
Unfortunately, speaking with locals, they are not at the point of connecting with the problem and the benefits of fixing it. Meanwhile, tourists keep drinking thousands of plastic water bottles and demanding new ones every morning. We all play a role.
