What a place! 😱😱
We have seen beautiful cemeteries around the world, but grand architecture like this inside a cemetery? We honestly had never experienced anything quite like it.
What a resting place.
Walking through Recoleta Cemetery feels almost like walking through an open-air museum of art, architecture and Argentine history — except that every magnificent mausoleum is someone’s final resting place.
We read about the people resting here — some from incredibly wealthy and influential families, while others are remembered because of what they contributed to Argentina and the city.
One monument in particular made us stop and pay our respects. The person resting there was a writer, former President and former Minister of Education of Argentina — a reminder that behind all these extraordinary monuments are real people and extraordinary lives.
And that’s what made this place so fascinating.
Grand pieces of art and architecture, sitting alongside the quiet reality of death and remembrance.
It creates such a strange mixture of feelings — awe, curiosity, respect and reflection, all at the same time.
