Awesome views of the Saskatchewan Glacier and Saskatchewan River
帕克岭徒步路径的点评
点评：Parker Ridge is an awesome but unassuming hiking trail located at the top of Banff National Park right beside the main Highway 93 going north up to Jasper on the west side of the Icefields Parkway at KM 117, 4 km south of the Banff-Jasper boundary. Rest rooms at the parking lot and a reasonably family and pet-friendly hike. You require a Banff Park Pass to stop anywhere in the park (exception 2026 season), but there is no specific fee to hike here (nor any park staff or other resources; you are out in the countryside here.)
After hiking up a series of switchbacks through the lower forest, topping a rocky ridge and going left a bit further over to the opposite side, the reward is jaw-dropping views of the 8 km-long Saskatchewan Glacier and the headwaters of the Saskatchewan River. Smaller glaciers top the mountains surrounding the river.
This hike covers a 6.8 km round trip, with an elevation gain of 344 m. It takes about 3 hours to complete, but you should definitely take water and lunch (and a windbreaker jacket layer) with you so that you can take more time to enjoy the view of the glaciers from the other side of the ridge once you’re up there! This is one of our favourite new Banff hiking spots we’ve found in the past few years and not to be missed.
You can continue on a north path further up the ridge towards the mountain peaks but we found the view is less amazing and the icy wind blowing down the mountain forces you to seek shelter inside one of the rock cairns people have built to hide out of the wind, even on a sunny warm day.
Note: often very deep snow in the winter but easy to moderate hike on a rocky & dirt trail in the summer. Hiking boots recommended. The parking area by the highway is minimal for the number of vehicles stopping here, so get there early or be patient for a parking spot. Parker Ridge Parking: 52.1916625 N -117.11582799999998 W.
