点评:Firstly, don’t bother booking a superset tour. Just get your tickets direct from the Robben Island website.
The Ferry goes from the Robben Island Museum (at V&A Gateway) and they are strict on times. Just go is inside the museum to check-in, after a security check.
There is no real need to get there early, as there is no upper deck seating and the boat fills front first and offloads back first (slightly better off being on later - unless you’re a large group).
Initially it feels like a deadset tourist trap - you arrive at the island and are shuffled on to pretty dated buses in groups of around 50.
But from the there it gets much better. You have a guide on the bus who’s an ex-inmate (mostly political prisoners) and they give you a rundown on the sites as you tour the Island, and also some relevant background.
It’s an extraordinary place, which depending on your side of the fence was either hell or paradise.
This is very much worth visiting - and the R600 (if booked direct) fee is great value.
One small negative is the videos they play to and from the island. They are really interesting, but impossible to hear and the subtitles are mostly down low and blocked by heads! Get a seat close to a screen - and on the rear deck would be my suggestion.
