点评:Visiting Robben Island Museum was special to me, it was not easy emotionally or physically, but it's a site not to be missed for those who are interested in South Africa's History.
The Island is accessible by Ferry, which takes around 45 minutes (each leg), I felt a bit seasick but I endured it. Upon reaching the Island, there are Rest Rooms/Toilets near the pier/wharf.
The Tour on the Island consisted of 2 parts:
The First part was on a bus that drove around the Island for about 40 minutes, with a local guide who provided clear guiding in English. The bus made multiple stops along the way in relation to significant parts of the Island. Visitors were required to stay on the bus, and only had an allotted time of just 10 minutes to get off the bus at a specific stop (to either take photos/or buy souvenirs by former prisoners/or use toilets). I guess this is because there are restrictions on movement on the Island, or there's an allotted time for each tour/group.
The Second part was on foot inside the prison compound, it lasted for about 40 minutes, and was guided by a former prisoner, and in English. It included entering and staying inside one of the cells, with the door being locked while being inside, and the guide shared his personal experience as a former prisoner. We then toured around inside the prison compound/yards/cells including Mandela's Cell.
