点评:We had a pleasant morning at the Company's Gardens and enjoyed learning about the history of the gardens as a way station for ships rounding the Cape. It's a great place for people-watching — we saw a bride and her attendants, a martial arts class in progress, and families picnicking.
The gardens are very close to the National Gallery, which is small but definitely worth a visit, and the Iziku South African museum, which features some spectacular ancient rock art.
The white squirrels in the garden were very interesting, but take note that people feed them, and they have become very bold. We even saw children holding them on their laps and feeding them peanuts!
Warning: We stopped for lunch at the restaurant in the gardens, which looked inviting but was a nightmare. (I should have paid attention to online reviews.) Our server seemed to deliberately ignore us, and we spent over an hour waiting for the bill. The same thing happened to the family at the table next to ours. Finally I had to walk up to the register to pay for our meal. My son and I both felt unwell after lunch and think it's because the food sat out for so long before it was delivered to our table.
