点评:I recently completed the Kokoda Track with tour company “Discover Kokoda” as part of a 50th birthday trip with a group of mates, and I couldn’t recommend them more highly.
Our trek was led by Mat Bragg, an Army officer whose leadership was exceptional. He brought the history of Kokoda to life with fascinating insights into the tactics and strategy of both sides, shared poetry from the campaign, and gave us a much deeper appreciation of what took place on the track.
The local support crew and porters were equally outstanding. They are incredibly capable, hardworking and always smiling, singing and laughing as they went about their day. Many come from the villages where you stay each night, so every camp is a homecoming for someone in the team. That creates a genuine connection with the local communities, who welcomed us warmly into their villages.
I’ve seen comments about food, however our tour company provided dinners of chicken curry, spag bol, lamb ragu, etc. The food was a highlight after a long day trekking.
We walked off early in the mornings, which meant we had time in afternoons to swim in the creeks, play touch footy with the local kids and enjoy a game of cards.
No phone reception for 8 days was also a highlight. No option but to switch off and enjoy time with my mates. It was the best.
