点评：The Ben Youssef Madrasa is simply extraordinary and was one of the most impressive places we visited in Marrakech. From the moment you enter the central courtyard, the beauty and intricacy of the architecture are breathtaking. The combination of carved cedar, detailed stucco, colorful zellige tilework, calligraphy and the reflecting pool creates a space that is both spectacular and remarkably peaceful.
What makes the Madrasa especially fascinating is that it is more than a beautiful building. For centuries this was an important center of learning, and exploring the former student rooms and upper levels gives you a real sense of how people actually lived and studied here. The contrast between the relatively simple student quarters and the magnificent central courtyard makes the experience even more interesting.
It is also beautifully restored and maintained, allowing you to appreciate an astonishing level of craftsmanship throughout the building. Take your time and look closely—the details are everywhere, and some of the most beautiful views come from the upper galleries looking back across the courtyard.
