点评：If you’re visiting Cairo, Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar is one of those places you really should experience at least once. It’s busy, chaotic and at times a little overwhelming, but that’s also what gives it so much character.
Wandering through the narrow streets and alleyways, you’ll find everything from spices and jewellery to souvenirs, artwork, clothing and traditional Egyptian gifts. There’s something interesting around almost every corner, and even if you’re not planning to buy anything, it’s a great place to simply wander and soak up the atmosphere.
Of course, this is a touristy market, so expect plenty of shopkeepers trying to get your attention and be prepared to haggle. Some people will love that part of the experience; others may find it a little tiring. We’d definitely recommend taking your time, comparing prices and not feeling pressured into buying something just because you've stopped to look.
One of our favourite things about Khan Al-Khalili was that it felt like more than just a place to shop. The architecture, narrow lanes, cafés and sheer amount of activity make it feel like a proper slice of old Cairo.
It's also worth exploring beyond the main shopping streets. Take a few turns down the quieter alleyways and you'll find some beautiful old buildings and much more of the historic character that makes this part of Cairo so interesting.
We'd recommend visiting with a rough idea of what you're looking for, but also leaving plenty of time just to wander. And if you're visiting Cairo for the first time, this is one of those places where the experience is as much about the atmosphere as anything you might actually buy.
Our verdict: Busy, chaotic and undeniably touristy, but also full of character and atmosphere. You might not love the shopping experience, but Khan Al-Khalili is an important part of experiencing Cairo and well worth exploring.
