You are surrounded by some of the most important artifacts in human history — mummies, sarcophagi, statues, jewelry, tools, sandals, funerary objects, and treasures connected to ancient Egypt’s greatest dynasties. The depth of the collection is undeniable.
But the presentation does not do justice to the civilization it represents.
The building feels tired and under-maintained. Many exhibits are still displayed in old wooden and glass cases, with poor lighting, dusty glass, and limited explanation. In some rooms, objects are packed from floor to ceiling, almost like storage rather than a carefully curated museum. Instead of feeling immersed in the grandeur and mystery of ancient Egypt, I often felt like I was walking through an outdated archive.
That was the disappointing part. A museum like this should feel atmospheric and reverential. With better lighting, improved exhibit design, clearer storytelling, and more thoughtful spacing, the experience could be magnificent. Imagine walking into a hall where statues, tomb fragments, hieroglyphs, and sarcophagi are illuminated in a way that makes the ancient world feel alive. The artifacts deserve that kind of treatment.
I would still recommend visiting because the collection itself is irreplaceable. But I would strongly suggest going with a knowledgeable guide. Without one, it is easy to miss the significance of what you are seeing, and the museum’s limited signage does not help enough. A good guide can turn a cluttered, confusing visit into something meaningful.
In short: the artifacts are world-class, but the museum experience needs serious modernization. Ancient Egypt deserves a more compelling stage.
