点评:We spent an evening at the Roppongi Hills Christmas market and found it a pleasant enough stroll, though the experience was mixed.
The atmosphere is undeniably festive – lights everywhere, plenty of people out enjoying themselves, and a genuine sense of seasonal cheer. That said, the market itself is quite tight, and at peak times it becomes genuinely shoulder-to-shoulder, which makes browsing or lingering at stalls more difficult than it should be.
The German Market was our main food stop, but unfortunately the offerings weren't freshly made. When you've had proper Reibekuchen in Cologne, anything pre-prepared is going to fall short – and it did. The quality simply wasn't there, which was disappointing given the setting and the premium you'd expect to pay.
The crowd skewed heavily towards young couples positioning themselves for selfies, which added to the congestion and made the experience feel more performative than relaxed. It's not a dealbreaker, but it does shift the tone away from the cosy, exploratory feel you might hope for from a Christmas market.
If you're after festive lights and a lively atmosphere, it delivers on that front. But if you're hoping for quality food or a more spacious, contemplative experience, you might find it underwhelming. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but perhaps best enjoyed earlier in the evening before the crowds really build.
