We hired a motorhome from Indie Campers (Booking WMU233612-1) from London Luton, 20–31 August 2026, for a family trip to Norway.
At the point of collection a clear defect with the central (main) door was identified. Their staff carried out a temporary repair and refused my request for a replacement vehicle. I had already emailed them before collection asking for a reliable vehicle for a long journey — that request was ignored.
Two days after arriving in Norway the door became critically unsafe. It could no longer open properly and risked detaching completely. We were forced to secure it with rope to stop it coming off. This imposed severe speed restrictions on the vehicle.
My 63-year-old sister, who has a medical condition that prevents her from safely using the driver’s door, was particularly affected. Because the central door could not be locked, one family member had to remain inside the vehicle at all times whenever the rest of us left it. We missed pre-booked accommodation, planned visits, and our Calais–Dover ferry as a direct result of the speed restrictions and restricted mobility.
I contacted roadside assistance and formally complained with full supporting evidence (photos, documents, correspondence). Indie Campers’ response? They offered only £142.74 “compensation” and refused to refund the hire cost, the wasted accommodation, the missed ferry, or any proper recognition of the safety risk and distress caused.
A motorhome with a door that has to be tied on with rope is not roadworthy, not safe, and not fit for purpose — especially when a vulnerable passenger is involved. Their refusal to replace the vehicle and their derisory offer show a complete lack of accountability.
This company prioritises protecting its own pocket over customer safety. Do not risk your holiday, your money, or your family’s safety with them.
