Great bang for your buck on Las Pailas trail

点评：We hiked the 2 mile Las Pailas trail, which is such a diverse experience! It goes through dry forest and rain forest -- but also past all the geothermal features you'd expect on an active volcano. Steam vents, bubbling mud pots, etc. So cool!
Abundant wildlife throughout the trail, with the highlight being the white-faced monkeys that were playing in the trees. Over a dozen that I could have watched for hours! We also saw a toucan, an agouti, many parrots, butterflies, lizards, and more.
We made our reservation & paid in advance so it was a smooth start. There is a six dollar (US) parking charge from the hotel down the road, but we were ready for that. We didn't have a guide but the trail was very well marked, with a few dead-ends to the fumaroles, etc. There's a nice gift shop at the trailhead, plus bathrooms, which is always great.
