Amazing Experience Above the Clouds with an Excellent Guide

点评：At first, the cost of this trip seemed daunting, but the adventure lured us in. Everything about this tour made it feel like a true bargain. Our tour guide was beyond excellent. We got geological lessons (he taught us to read the lava as we drove along, not only changing the way we saw what was rushing by the van, but he gave us a lexicon to read future landscapes formed by lava world wide). He provided massive amounts of Hawaiian history, offered in a way that was fascinating and relatable/digestible and we were on the edge of our seats ready for more. Dinner was SUPER YUMMY (vegetarian lasagna and a yummy brownie). We got good guidance on how to avoid altitude sickness. We saw all of the telescopes and got interesting facts about all of them. We were parked, with heavy parkas (maybe bring your own gloves), well in time to be set up to watch sunset. Then we trundled back into the van (one of the last vehicles to leave the summit) and found a place to stargaze that was sheltered from the wind. We got hot beverages (coffee, hot chocolate, mocha, several kinds of tea or apple cider) and then our guide spent a long time giving us astronomy lessons. He pointed out many constellations and we got to view some AMAZING sites through the telescope. The trip back was 1/2 filled with more history and stories, the other 1/2 allowed people to relax, but it was a friendly environment where questions were encouraged and welcomed. Overall, this felt like an incredible education amongst incredible sights. 8 hours from pick up to drop off…in the end, the cost felt like a true value for the money.
