Magnificent richly-decorated medieval cathedral

点评：The stewards at Rochester Cathedral are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the building and the many artifacts and architectural features. I saw a Victorian stained-glass window commemorating St William of Perth / Rochester, the tomb of Walter de Merton - Bishop of Rochester and Chancellor of England. He founded Merton College and died died in 1277. There is also a 13th century mural, many architectural features, and the site of St William's shrine - a multi-patterned floor decorated with medieval tiles and tesserae. Also, the Pilgrims' Steps worn away by the knees and feet of countless pilgrims over 700 years. In the 1900s, the steps were covered in wooden slats to preserve the stone. Beside the St William window is a stained glass window commemorating St John the Baptist. There is a beautiful garden at the back of the cathedral. The crypt has refreshments and displays about various aspects of the cathedral's history.
