点评:The Long Shop museum is located in the Suffolk town of Leiston, on the old premises of Richard Garrett & Sons.
I took a train to Saxmundham then bus 521 to Leiston Library, from where it is a very short walk.
Richard Garrett & Sons was established back in 1778 and ran until 1932.
It produced agricultural machinery such as seed drills and threshing machines, before moving on to production of steam engines and trolley buses.
It was a major employer in the area and there are lots of examples of the firm’s products on display.
War production became a priority during World War I but ironically the company was financially hindered by the Russian revolution with the new regime not honouring debts of £200,000 at the time.
I spent an enjoyable hour or so here.
Admission fee was £6 for over 65s. The regular price is £8.
