Amazing Holker Hall & Gardens

点评：Visited the house and gardens today while here on holiday near Kendal.
Easy to find using Sat Nav and plenty of free parking too.
We purchased 2 tickets costing £27..90 from a wonderful man in the ticket box who explained all the important things to look out for in the gardens and the closing times. He was so polite and told us we were free to come and go all day but the main thing was to have a very enjoyable day....such a gentleman.
We did the house 1st and were greeted at the entrance by another lovely lady who gave us some background information about the house and families who lived there and the current occupier Lucy Cavendish.
O my what a house....its stunning and had such a lovely smell (not like some old stately homes) and no ropes or barriers so you could get close up to things. Its steeped in history and you can see wealth in every room and the staircase is gorgeous.
When we went upstairs we were greeted by Helen and she again told us all about the ladies room where they used to exercise and the bedrooms. We asked Helen lots of questions and she knew so much information about everyone and everything. My husband asked how she remembered everything and she said she had been doing it for 13 years and we found out that the gentleman in the ticket box was her husband. Helen was so polite and friendly and it was an absolute joy listening to her and all her knowledge.....especially about the 4 crests in the window.
The gardens are absolutely gorgeous too, plenty of flowers, topiary trees, olive trees, statues, an abundance of bees and butterflies and plenty of seats to sit on and admire the view. We walked through every garden and the surrounding woodland and other areas. We loved the Holker Great Lime, Fountain and the Slate Sundial and even had a go on the see-saw.
When we had finished we had a coffee (latte) in the lovely cafe too.
We have had such a fabulous day thanks to such lovely staff, an amazing house and outstanding gardens. We arrived around 10.30am and never left until 4pm.....what a great day out.
If you are in the area I would definitely recommend as this is the best kept home we have visited and great value for money.

天哪，这真是一座绝妙的房子啊……它美得令人惊叹，还散发着迷人的香气（不像一些古老的豪宅那样有霉味）。屋里也没有任何绳子或障碍物，因此可以近距离欣赏各种陈设。这座房子饱含历史底蕴，每个房间都彰显着昔日的奢华气息，楼梯更是美轮美奂。我们上楼后，海伦热情地接待了我们。她再次向我们介绍了那些女士们过去用来锻炼的健身房以及各个卧室的情况。我们向海伦问了很多问题，而她对每个人和每件事都了如指掌。我丈夫问她是怎么记住这么多事情的，她说自己做这份工作已经13年了。后来我们才知道，售票处那位男士就是她的丈夫。海伦非常有礼貌且亲切友好，听她讲述各种知识真是件乐事……尤其是关于窗框上那四个纹章的介绍。
花园也美得令人惊叹：鲜花遍地，还有修剪整齐的树篱、橄榄树以及各种雕像；蜜蜂与蝴蝶成群飞舞，到处都设有长椅供人坐下欣赏美景。我们走遍了每一个花园、周围的林地及其他区域。我们特别喜欢那棵霍尔克大椴树。我们还玩了喷泉、石板日晷，甚至还尝试了跷跷板。游玩结束后，我们又在那家可爱的咖啡馆里喝了拿铁。
多亏了热情周到的工作人员、漂亮的房子以及绝美的花园，我们今天度过了极其愉快的一天。我们上午10点半左右抵达，直到下午4点才离开……真是美好的一天啊！
