点评:The Basilica Cistern is a survival of the vast 6th-century underground water reservoir built during the reign of Justinian I to supply the Great Palace of Constantinople. Tall columns support the vault while the water ripples between them. It is hugely impressive for its scale and the marvel of engineering. It has, however, been significantly restored and only a relatively small number of columns remain in their original state. You walk around on a grated walkway and as you begin to appreciate the scale of the place you will be impressed by the ambition of Justinian and the ability of his engineers.
Like most of the major sights in Instanbul, the entrance fee is EXPENSIVE, unless you are a resident. I'm not entirely certain that it was worth the expense and I am pretty certain that I would not pay that level of entrance fee again.
It gets busy but the queues tend to be more manageable than those for Hagia Sophia. Since, it is naturally underground you need to be able for the stairs.
