点评:Quite possibly one of the worst museums I’ve ever visited - not because of the collection, which contains some excellent pieces, but because they have no idea how to exhibit them. Ridiculously badly lit. When you have so many tiny delicately detailed pieces, you need much brighter lighting and/ or exterior light sources to bring out the best in the fine details. Every exhibit case has a row of tiny dim lights above the pieces with complete disregard for the individual nuances of each piece. The photo I posted illustrates how badly lit it is.
So disappointing when there is so much richness in the artefacts. No excuse for a supposedly major museum. Amateurish.
The curation team should take some lessons from a lighting designer.
Some pieces were so poorly positioned - prime example being the two large sarcophagi near the front door. These should have been raised vertically in order to appreciate them properly. It’s just sheer laziness.
A word also about the sketchy behaviour of the woman at the ticket office who demanded 1250 lira (about £30) when the admission notice clearly states €15. When I went to pay in euro instead she quickly changed her mind and asked for 850 lira. Running a street hustle from an official ticket office, nice.
Save your money unless there are specific pieces you need to see. And if you need to photograph them, bring a serious camera with a high powered lens because your phone isn’t going to penetrate the gloom.
