点评:With limited time, I had to choose between this and The Grove, and given that Savannah was on the same trip, I think I made the right choice - I prefer architecture, furnishings and family to being taught 'history as a revelation' when I've got a couple of degrees already. The place is interesting because of its long and varied history, it's midlife decline, 1910s social scene revival and then long slide into and eventual rescue as an event space that actually does preserve the house's integrity. (Not all do). Benefitted from a solo tour and very interactive guide. Would be nice someday to see the original dependencies restored and opened but I'm going to guess that isn't in the budget. The kitchen is the gift shop and another building is a cafe. I would not call this gilded age opulent (though certainly upper tier), but then this was Tallahassee, not New York, Chicago or oil money. Worth your time.
