点评:The "Pont Saint-Bénézet" (St. Benedict Bridge) was built across the Rhône, initially as a wooden bridge, between 1177 and 1185. This was destroyed in 1226, and st the beginning in 1234 the bridge was rebuilt with 22 stone arches.
The bridge fell into a state of disrepair during the first half of the 17th century, and by 1644 the bridge was missing four arches. A flood in 1669 swept away more of the structure. The surviving arches have successively collapsed or been demolished and only four of the arches remain today.
About midway of the remaining bridge there is the Chapel of Saint Nicholas, built in the 2nd half of 12th century. It is actually two chapels onto two floors: St. Nicholas Chapel at the bridge level, and St. Bénézet Chapel on the lower floor. Both chapels are bare.
There is not much to see here, apart from nice views of the Rhône river. According to me, visiting the bridge can be skipped entirely.
