点评:I was a bit unsure of what to expect. The museum is way out in the middle of nowhere. Certainly not a tourist location. It began as a passion for a rich Easterner in the 1930s and has become a research museum. The museum building itself feels like a large rambling old house. Rather nice with large beamed vaulted ceilings. There are a number of rooms with displays of Native American Indians. I was surprised at the breadth of the coverage – a little bit about Native Americans from the Arctic Circle to Peru. Not much about each. It’s a bit ambitious and not sure why the breadth when their ‘claim of fame’ is Southern US and northern Mexico. They did have some extensive coverage of the Paquimé area in Mexico in which they were heavily involved. They have a whole room on jewelry of the Four Corners Native Americans; several rooms on Native American sports and athletes; a depiction of the original museum when it was doing mostly research. There’s a nice little gift shop. Next door is an art gallery. But since we were there late in the day, we didn’t have time for the gallery. We were the only ones at the museum (probably for the whole day) and had the place to ourselves. I was disappointed that there was no mention of their current activities. Good trip.
