Better than expected, quite a few things to see and learn.
National Maritime Museum的点评
点评:I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this museum, but I was pleasantly surprised. Built across three floors in converted brick warehouse it does a reasonable job at detailing the development of maritime trade, warfare and history.
The first floor has some lockers and the information desk, together with the first exhibition rooms which were on the subject of early maritime settlements on the Baltic coast, specifically during the Viking ages. This is based from various archaeological finds in the area, such as an old wooden sailing boat together with small items of jewellery. From examining each item it helps give the story and its significance of the settlement. This I found to be quite interesting, as I released there is so much can be told from modern 'forensincs'. Also there was a room about the technological advancements in underwater robotics/exploration from the communist era with actual vehicles developed.
The upper floors explain more about trade during the age of sail before moving through to the technological advancements in shipbuilding, steam turbine development, steel welded ships, 20th century naval warfare and the emergence of the cruise liner in the 20th century. There are plenty of ship models, both wooden and plastic, together with small dioramas and an actual mock up of the interior of a wooden galley which includes an interactive firing cannon simulation. There are also some interactive touch screens, which offer text in English and Polish, although they were few. I had made do with the printed guide on each floor (free to take - and return) which details the object shown in each display case.
I spent just about under 2 hours having a look round. It does soak up some time, but a few more interactives would be more welcome I think for children.
