点评:My strongest recommendation would be: Pay to go up the tower and enjoy the view, then go somewhere else to eat and enjoy a decent meal. You will have an equally good experience at the tower and a much better dining experience, whilst still saving a fortune to spend elsewhere.
Looked forward to this enormously. The reviews were good and the photo's terrific. Reality was a little different.
Unfortunately the whole down stairs area was a little tired and worn. It had a couple of little souvenir stores and a big arcade on the very bottom floor, but it was worn out and had little to cheer about.
Great shame, it is so sad to see things falling into disrepair like this and it's a shame more hasn't been able to be spent on either maintaining the area or drawing more footfall from the tourist heavy Clifton Hill area of the town. That said, there were no issues down here. it was well marshalled and we got up to the restaurant without any issues.
The restaurant itself was very busy and we were ushered to a table overlooking the windows. Our cycle began with a great view of the falls, which was quite spectacular, but our initial host seemed determined to rush us through the process and we felt a little like cattle being processed rather than guests being looked after.
We wanted starters with the meal and asked if there was a vegetarian option for the one vegetarian member of our party, but we were told there was nothing and completely dismissed. We asked if there was anything that could be sorted and were told 'just what's there'
We ordered drinks and just opted for mains. Some courgette/zuccini spirals and a pork tomahawk. Disappointed at not being able to enjoy a starter we were still very much looking forward to a terrific entree.
Unfortunately that did not come to pass either. The spirals were bland, boring, and mostly left, and the tomahawk was not a tomahawk at all, it was a thick cut pork loin chop with a slither of bone. This is significantly different from a tomahawk, both in presentation and flavour, but to cap it off, rather than being served with potatoes of the day and vegetables, it was sat on a small pile of some rice concoction with a couple of token vegetables at the side.
Had the rice and vegetables been quality items which had been designed with the dish and served as a hot fine dining experience, that would have been great. However the whole dish felt like the meat had been cooked then someone had gone to the buffet downstairs and thrown the other items on a plate before sending it back up for the meat to be put on top. Poor quality pub grub at best. Rushed service with little thought and less care.
This was my wifes birthday treat so we did not complain and just tried to enjoy the experience. However, at a total cost of $252 CAD (around £135) for a meal for two, (we had a desert with one drink each), it is an experience I would neither repeat nor recommend to anyone.
The staff were too fixed on pushing people through and too focussed on supporting where they assumed tips were coming from. We left 10% out of respect to the custom in the area, and we were also charged a local tourist tax (which you don't have to pay) with a card explaining that some hospitality venues in the area add this tax to help support upkeep of the area. I don't disagree with that sentiment, but do think that some of this money should be put into upkeeping the tower, as the restaurant was also looking old, tired, and dirty in areas.
Visiting the viewing deck was included in the price of the meal. This was a great experience and easilly as good an option as the rotating restaurant.
