点评:I purchased a Bunka knife from Musashi Japan (Nishiasakusa branch, Tokyo). The knife I wanted wasn’t available, so Julien went to another branch to bring it. Since I had decided to buy it with an engraving, he quickly showed it to me to check the handle colour and immediately proceeded with the engraving. He then showed me the finished engraving and packaged the knife.
However, when I returned to my hotel, I noticed a large scratch on the blade, visible only under certain light but clearly present.
The next day, I reported the issue to customer service (who, incredibly, spoke very little English!) and went to the Asakusa store closer to my hotel, where I met Tim and Barbara, both fantastic. The problem occurred because engraved knives cannot be replaced. This is why we are particularly disappointed with Julien: the knife should have been carefully inspected before sale, especially as a personalised item that cannot be returned.
Tim went out of his way to assist. He contacted customer service, tried to reduce the scratch with polishing, and even considered sending the knife back to the craftsman. After over an hour in the store, we were forced to accept the defective knife. While repackaging, Tim also noticed that the plastic sheath included with the knife was missing, while Julien had previously told us it wasn’t included and suggested to purchase one in-store.
It is unacceptable that a €200 knife cannot be replaced or refunded — not even partially (we were offered only 5%) — simply because it was engraved, when the defect was clearly present from the start and should have been noticed by Julien.
The scratch is still visible, the original polish has been ruined, and the knife now looks heavily used. Leaving the store with a defective knife was extremely disappointing. I will definitely not purchase from Musashi again.
