点评：We visited the Valley of the Temples on a day trip from Palermo to Agrigento on the second leg of a five week visit to Sicily in April 2026. We opted not to take an organized day tour from Palermo, but to make our own arrangements so that we could set our own pace in the Valley of the Temples; avoid four or five hours in a cramped van; and take some time to see Agrigento. We had pre-booked our train tickets and took a mid-morning train from Palermo direct to Agrigento, a pleasant journey of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. From Agrigento Centrale we walked along the main shopping street (Via Atenea), had a light lunch at Pasticceria Inferno (reviewed separately) and then took a taxi from the train station to the Valley of the Temples where we met our Rick Steves-recommended guide Michele Gallo. Over the next two hours thanks to our informative, patient and overall outstanding guide, we were transported back 2,500 years to a time when the Greek empire stretched to Sicily and beyond. The more than a dozen temples on the site are almost overwhelming in their size and design. We spent most of our time at the ruins of three temples - Juno, Concordia and Zeus (see attached pictures), of which the Concordia structure was most intact. Once we had finished our guided walk through this world class archeological site, we returned to the 21st century, took a taxi back to Agrigento Centrale (there is apparently also a shuttle) and took the train back to Palermo. In total our day trip took 10 hours, a long day but definitely worth it! We certainly recommend a visit to the Valley of the Temples which was one of the highlights of our visit to Sicily.
