点评：Agrigento is a historic hilltop town on Sicily’s southwestern coast, famous worldwide for its extraordinary Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi). This UNESCO World Heritage Site features some of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples outside Greece, built by the wealthy Greek colony of Akragas (founded in 581 BC). It offers a stunning contrast to the lively, narrow alleys and balconies you experienced in Palermo.
Valley of the Temples – The Star Attraction
The site spans a large archaeological park (about 1,300 hectares) on a ridge overlooking the sea, with eight major Doric temples from the 5th–6th centuries BC. Highlights include:
• Temple of Concordia — One of the most perfectly preserved Greek temples anywhere, often compared to the Parthenon.
• Temple of Juno (Hera) and Temple of Hercules (Heracles) — Impressive ruins with dramatic columns.
• Temple of Olympian Zeus (Jupiter) — Once the largest Doric temple ever built; now mostly in ruins but awe-inspiring in scale.
When we arrived by train, we were a bit lost as we could not find the bus stop to the place, this was rendered difficult as it was raining and cold. We tried to ask a few locals but to no avail. We finally teamed up with a Singaporean student and we paid 15 euros for 3 persons in an unlicensed taxi. However, we couldn’t understand where the return bus stop was located. In fact it’s not located near the entrance but at another exit point. We finally returned by the same Taxi..
