We visited Zakopane in September 2025 with a group of 8 of us, kids and elderly included. The highlanders who have the horse and buggy's have gotten a lot of heat from environmentalists against using the horses for the ride up. Regardless, they were known to negotiate if people would pay cash and in a group setting to give discounts. NOT ANYMORE. Zakopane has become a HUGE tourist trap, especially those with money, which has caused the locals to be rude and greedy. IF you are planning on going to Morksie Oko, PLEASE pre-purchase your tickets online, because on-site, you will get scammed. The horse and buggy was 170zloty/person/roundtrip, which is about $46.80 USD for a very slow/cold ride up and down the mountain. AND they won't go up until they have 13 people on their carriage. So, you could be waiting an hour before you actually go up or down.
