奥尔顿塔的点评
点评：I recently had a trip to Alton Towers with my friends and family for my very first time at Alton Afterdark! I have a lot of things to say, some negative, some positive.
Let’s start with the positives..
The Smiler is running absolutely fantastic this year the new wheels and refurbished trains not only look absolutely fantastic but the ride experience is MUCH smoother than it was last year..
Staff members were absolutely amazing to meet and talk too.. Rob, who worked in curse of Alton Manor was absolutely awesome, he was very in charecter and played his roll great, I was a lot more immerssed in the storyline and ride thanks to him, I also had a lovely chat with him about the park and how long he has worked there for..
Rosie, who worked at The Smiler for both days was also really nice, having care for the attraction she worked at, being intrested and caring about the conversation we were having about The Smiler and overall being friendly and caring. It was awesome to see passion for theme parks in an employee!
I don’t remember other employees names but I had lots of really nice conversations about the park and about how everybody thinks The Smilers orignal “Corrected” theming should return too..
Lastly, I met the amazing Howard, vice president of Alton Towers, I was absolutely over the moon when I bumped into him in Towers Trading. He is an absolutely amazing person and you can clearly see passion for his role at Alton Towers. Howard is kind, welcoming and shows genuine true passion for the park. He was even open to suggestions about the park and he didn’t just brush off the suggestions made, he genuinely cared and explained that things were definitely on the radar to happen.. I firmly believe Alton Towers is in great hands now that Howard is vice president!
Now onto Alton Afterdark as an event.
This was my first ever time being af Alton Towers in the dark in my years of coming here and it was AMAZING! There is absolutely nothing like The Smiler in the dark. My mind was blown away during the entire duration of the ride, it was absolutely breathtaking… Nemesis reborn in the dark was also just incredible, I didn’t even know what was going on, it’s easily one of the best ride experiences ever!
The symphony of the towers light show was super cool and I loved to see it. The park is absolutely beautiful at nighttime..
Now for the overall park positives..
The Corkscrew paintjob is really vibrant and colourful, seeing it return to its original colour was really cool to see and I feel as if it’s definitely much better and a big improvement than last year..
X-Sector has new speakers in the area making it sound a lot more higher quality and louder which is great. Marmaliser sound effects are a lot clearer and louder as they should be and some of the marmalsier screen has been fixed..
Most positively about The Smiler is the fact the older theming has been slowly making a return, with the marmaliser screen video being close to the orignal back in 2013 featuring more of the Marmalisation concepts that made the ride what it is. The needle imagry on The Smiler also has returned! All that needs to be added is the original Correction theming and it would be one of the best decisions the park has made in years!
The Smilers station music is also finally playing again after years of silence which is awesome to hear, it made me very happy!
Finally, The Smilers new restraints look absolutely amazing and feel comfortable, I hope ALL the trains receive the same upgrade and refurbishment and possibly even lap bars someday.
Towers street and a few pathways have also been repainted and washed which is good!
Another AMAZING!! Positive is that oblivion had some of its old horror theming make a return! It now says “Welcome to eternal darkness” (death) in the station building video. Seeing this really shows the park cares a lot for the older themeing that is in demand for a return for both Oblivion and The Smiler!
Lastly for the positives, many guests in the park during this season have shown a lot of the same passion. I tend to sadly visit in schooltrip season but this time, it was filled with a lot of other passion and friendly people, I met many new friends!
Now sadly, despite all the positives, there are some negatives and some of them are pretty bad, I hate to be negative about my favourite place but things do need improvement..
So for the negatives…
The park is looking extremely tired this year, a lot of the park is extremely mossy and dirty. It’s really sad to see how tired the park has gotten, it really needs investment into refurbishment..
Galactica is extremely out of place in forbidden valley and the track is absolutely disgusting looking. It really needs a retheme sometime..
The Smilers area is even worse in my opinion, the track was once a shiny black colour but it is now mossy, brown and extremely rusty. it’s in a really bad state, the halfway sign is also covered in moss and is filthy, sadly, the halfway sign is also missing the “corrected” sign underneath it which should definitely return. On the topic of the halfway point for the smiler, the speakers are broken and very very silent so the audio that plays just cannot be heard most the time, the audio that used to say “halfway corrected” is also gone which is just not good at all..
The Marmaliser screen has a bunch of dead pixels and broken screens, the smilers effects like water spraying and mist are all broken and the yellow barrels on the giggler leg has had it logos painted over without any replacements painted on which is lazy.
The 4PM closes are WAY too early for a park of this size, I think it’s a really bad decision on a buisness perspective and a guest perspective.. I simply just will not visit on 4PM days due to living so far away from Alton Towers..
Ride availablity has definitely been better but it’s still not amazing, sadly oblivion has been closed for a while along with the monorail, sky ride, river rapids and more. These attractions are great at helping spread our queues and stop overcrowding..
The openings for many of the rides have been super delayed which is a sad start to the day..
For the most and absolutely worst negative I would say is the state of The Smilers theming… in the correction block (also known as the indoor queue/projection room) has really bad and awkward audio cuts in the soundtrack where it would originally make an annoucment about being on a correctional process which just sounds absolutely terrible and kills the immersion. The original unedited version needs to come back.
The Airgates Audio for The Smiler doesn’t say “Time To Get Corrected” anymore which is really really sad and honestly the biggest disappointment for me personally. I think It really desperately needs to return its in original form.
The Smilers storyline and theming about being a correctional device is probably the best theming we have ever gotten for a rollercoaster in the entire world, even non smiler fans agree often that it’s a very great aspect. I strongly believe it would be nothing but positive feedback for the correction element to return, it is a heavily missed part of theming, even by the thousands and thousands who have never experienced it, we all really want it to return.. even my mother who isn’t a coaster enthusiast thinks it would be a good idea to slowly introduce back over the seasons.
I understand concerns in having correction make a return and I definitely see it from all angles.. however, at Alton Towers we have wickerman which is a ride about sacrificing ourselves like we are nothing and burning alive, the pre show even says “what an honour to see yourself burn” We also have oblivion which is all about using us as a test subject to greet “eternal darkness” (death) and lastly, The Smilers halfway video literally features torture and very creepy footage telling you to obey which has been there since it opened with absolutely no complaints whatsoever.
Correction theming for The Smiler is extremely tame when you think of everything else mentioned that is still in the park today, all of which have been praised heavily, even in this day and age.
All employees and guests I spoke to about it also agrees it should return
I would say, if the park wants to be careful with adding correction back to The Smiler, do it slowly, start with video screens featuring it, then audio, then signage. I strongly believe there would be absolutely positive feedback and no problems, especially considering how much more terrifying and scary other rides theming is, it would be silly to not have it return.
The Smiler Shop still says “Time to Get Corrected” from time to time every few minutes and has done for absolute years now, with no complaints so hopefully the rest will be added in!
That concludes my review, I would have normally rated a little lower but due to the massive care of the employees and amazing vice president, Howards passion, care and consideration. I’m deciding and rate it higher!
I would like to ask this review and all the points made be passed onto the relative teams and higher ups who can read, consider and make a decision on all that have been stated.. I would also be happy to explain more, highlight specific areas in more detail and try to help out if needed via email or phone.
I hope to see some improvements through the season and if not, by next season.

“微笑者”车站的音乐在沉寂多年后终于再次响起，这真是太棒了，让我非常开心！
最后，“微笑者”的新安全装置看起来非常棒，而且很舒适。我希望所有列车都能进行同样的升级和翻新，甚至将来还能安装安全杆。

又一个令人惊艳的亮点！！好消息是，Oblivion过山车的一些经典恐怖主题元素回归了！车站大楼的视频里现在出现了“欢迎来到永恒的黑暗”（死亡）的字样。这充分说明乐园非常重视那些老主题元素，而这些元素也正是大家期待Oblivion和The Smiler过山车回归的原因！
最后说说其他的亮点，这个季度来乐园游玩的游客都展现出了同样的热情。我通常会在学校旅行季来这里，但这次，乐园里充满了其他游客的热情和友善，我还结识了很多新朋友！
不过，尽管有这么多优点，也有一些不足之处，其中一些还相当糟糕。我不想对我最喜欢的地方说些负面的话，但有些地方确实需要改进。
那么，说说不足之处吧……
今年的乐园看起来非常破旧，很多地方都长满了青苔，而且很脏。看到公园变得如此破败不堪，真是令人惋惜，它真的需要投资翻新。
“银河战舰”过山车在禁忌山谷显得格格不入，赛道也脏得令人作呕。它真的需要重新装修一下。
在我看来，“微笑者”区域的情况更糟，赛道曾经是闪亮的黑色，现在却长满了青苔，变成棕色，而且锈迹斑斑。它的状况非常糟糕，就连中途指示牌也长满了青苔，肮脏不堪。真是令人遗憾。中途指示牌下方的“已修正”指示牌也缺失了，这绝对应该恢复。说到“微笑者”的中途指示牌，扬声器坏了，声音非常小，所以大部分时间都听不到声音，以前“已修正中途”的提示音也消失了，这真是太糟糕了。
“果酱器”屏幕上有很多坏点和破损的屏幕，“微笑者”的喷水和雾气等特效也都失效了，而且“咯咯笑者”腿上的黄色桶上的标志被涂掉了，没有重新绘制，这种做法很敷衍。
下午 4 点关门对于这么大的一个主题公园来说实在太早了，我觉得无论从商业角度还是游客角度来看，这都是个糟糕的决定。由于我家离奥尔顿塔太远，我干脆不会在下午 4 点关门的日子去玩了。
游乐设施的开放情况确实有所改善，但仍然不够理想。可惜的是，像“遗忘”（Oblivion）这样的过山车以及单轨列车、空中缆车、激流勇进等等都关闭了一段时间。这些项目对于分散排队时间和避免过度拥挤非常有效。
很多游乐设施的开放时间都被严重延迟，这真是糟糕的一天。

“双塔交响曲”（Symphony of the Towers）灯光秀超级酷炫，我非常喜欢。夜晚的乐园美得令人窒息。
接下来是乐园整体的亮点……
“螺旋过山车”（Corkscrew）的涂装焕然一新，色彩鲜艳夺目，看到它恢复了原本的色彩真是太棒了，感觉比去年有了很大的提升。
“X区”（X-Sector）区域安装了新的扬声器，音质更佳，音量也更大，这真是太好了。 “Marmaliser”音效现在清晰响亮多了，这才是它应有的样子，而且屏幕上的部分画面也修复了。
“微笑者”过山车最令人欣喜的是，它早期的主题设计正在逐步回归，Marmaliser屏幕的视频也接近2013年的原始版本，展现了更多令其成为经典的“Marmalisation”概念。此外，“微笑者”上的指针图像也回归了！如果能加上最初的“修正”主题，那将是乐园近年来做出的最明智的决定之一！
“微笑者”车站的音乐在沉寂多年后终于再次响起，这真是太棒了，让我非常开心！
最后，“微笑者”的新安全装置看起来非常棒，而且很舒适。我希望所有列车都能进行同样的升级和翻新，甚至将来还能安装安全杆。
塔楼街和一些小路也重新粉刷和清洗过了，这很好！
又一个令人惊艳的亮点！！好消息是，Oblivion过山车的一些经典恐怖主题元素回归了！车站大楼的视频里现在出现了“欢迎来到永恒的黑暗”（死亡）的字样。这充分说明乐园非常重视那些老主题元素，而这些元素也正是大家期待Oblivion和The Smiler过山车回归的原因！
最后说说其他的亮点，这个季度来乐园游玩的游客都展现出了同样的热情。我通常会在学校旅行季来这里，但这次，乐园里充满了其他游客的热情和友善，我还结识了很多新朋友！
不过，尽管有这么多优点，也有一些不足之处，其中一些还相当糟糕。我不想对我最喜欢的地方说些负面的话，但有些地方确实需要改进。
那么，说说不足之处吧……
今年的乐园看起来非常破旧，很多地方都长满了青苔，而且很脏。看到公园变得如此破败不堪，真是令人惋惜，它真的需要投资翻新。
“银河战舰”过山车在禁忌山谷显得格格不入，赛道也脏得令人作呕。它真的需要重新装修一下。
在我看来，“微笑者”区域的情况更糟，赛道曾经是闪亮的黑色，现在却长满了青苔，变成棕色，而且锈迹斑斑。它的状况非常糟糕，就连中途指示牌也长满了青苔，肮脏不堪。真是令人遗憾。中途指示牌下方的“已修正”指示牌也缺失了，这绝对应该恢复。说到“微笑者”的中途指示牌，扬声器坏了，声音非常小，所以大部分时间都听不到声音，以前“已修正中途”的提示音也消失了，这真是太糟糕了。
“果酱器”屏幕上有很多坏点和破损的屏幕，“微笑者”的喷水和雾气等特效也都失效了，而且“咯咯笑者”腿上的黄色桶上的标志被涂掉了，没有重新绘制，这种做法很敷衍。
下午 4 点关门对于这么大的一个主题公园来说实在太早了，我觉得无论从商业角度还是游客角度来看，这都是个糟糕的决定。由于我家离奥尔顿塔太远，我干脆不会在下午 4 点关门的日子去玩了。
游乐设施的开放情况确实有所改善，但仍然不够理想。可惜的是，像“遗忘”（Oblivion）这样的过山车以及单轨列车、空中缆车、激流勇进等等都关闭了一段时间。这些项目对于分散排队时间和避免过度拥挤非常有效。
很多游乐设施的开放时间都被严重延迟，这真是糟糕的一天。
要说最糟糕、最令人失望的地方，那就是“微笑者”（The Smilers）主题的呈现效果……在矫正区（也就是室内排队区/放映室）里，原本应该播放一段关于矫正程序的广播，现在却被生硬地剪辑掉了，听起来非常难听，完全破坏了沉浸感。应该恢复原版未剪辑的音频。
“微笑者”过山车的“纠正时间”音效不再播放了，这真的非常令人难过，说实话，对我个人而言，这是最大的遗憾。我认为它真的迫切需要以原版的形式回归。
“微笑者”的故事线和主题设定——作为一台矫正装置——可能是全世界过山车主题设计中最棒的，即使不是“微笑者”的粉丝，也经常会认同这一点。我坚信，如果矫正元素回归，一定会获得积极的反馈。这是主题设计中一个非常令人怀念的部分，即使是成千上万从未体验过它的人，也都非常希望它能回归……就连我那位并非过山车爱好者的母亲也认为，在未来的几个季度里逐步恢复这个元素是个好主意。
我理解大家对“矫正”功能回归的担忧，我也从各个角度看待这个问题。然而，在奥尔顿塔主题公园，我们有“柳条人”（Wickerman），这是一个以牺牲自我、活活烧死为主题的游乐项目，预演甚至会说“亲眼目睹自己被烧死是多么荣幸”。我们还有“遗忘”（Oblivion），它把我们当作实验对象，让我们迎接“永恒的黑暗”（死亡）。最后，“微笑者”（The Smiler）过山车的中途视频就包含酷刑和令人毛骨悚然的画面，命令游客服从，而这些画面自公园开放以来就一直存在，却从未收到任何投诉。
与上述其他项目相比，“微笑者”的“矫正”主题显得非常温和，这些项目至今仍在公园内，并且都广受好评，即使在今天也是如此。
我与所有员工和游客交谈过，他们都同意应该恢复“矫正”功能。
我认为，如果公园想要谨慎地将“矫正”功能重新引入“微笑者”，应该循序渐进，先从视频屏幕开始，然后是音频，最后是标牌。我坚信一定会收到积极的反馈，不会出现任何问题。尤其考虑到其他游乐设施的主题设计更加恐怖吓人，不让它回归简直太可惜了。
“微笑商店”仍然每隔几分钟就会出现“是时候纠正一下了”的提示，这种情况已经持续好几年了，而且一直没有收到任何投诉，所以我希望其他方面也能有所改进！
我的评价到此结束。通常情况下，我会给它更低的评分，但考虑到员工们的尽心尽责，以及副总裁霍华德的热情、关怀和体贴，我决定给它更高的评价！
