点评:Hidden gem in NW Ohio, near the Ohio Turnpike, maybe just 45 minutes from Toledo's western suburbs. It's similar to Dearborn's Greenfield Village, but at Sauder all of the historic structures are very close to each other, so it's a much smaller footprint, and there's not as much walking as at Greenfield. Sauder has at least as many interesting historic structures as Greenfield.
Reason for the one-star reduction: We've been to Sauder Village 3 or 4 times over the past 15 years and it's always been a pleasant experience. However, our most recent visit was on a beautiful Friday in mid-October. Oy vey. We should have been tipped off by the school buses going in/out of the parking lot. That day, according to staff, there were over 720 elementary/middle-school students there on field trips. Seven HUNDRED. Most were controlled/behaved. But, kids will be kids. There's only one food venue within the entire Village, a soda/ice cream shop. The line was wrapped all around the shop and then out the door. It was reminiscent of standing in line at King's Island or Cedar Point waiting to ride the newest roller coaster.
So, we definitely recommend going to Sauder Village, it's really awesome and very well done. However, if you want to go during the autumn or spring when schools are in-session, we recommend calling ahead to see if they're expecting an onslaught of field trippers. We assume Fridays are the most popular for that. Mondays-Thursdays are probably safe.
