点评：Visit for the day or stay at one of the on island inns, but don't miss a trip to Monhegan! Easy ferry access from New Harbor, Boothbay Harbor, or Port Clyde, whichever is closer to where you are. The trip to/from New Harbor is approximately 1-1/4 hours each way. Catching the first ferry in the morning allows for a full day on island with return trips beginning at 3:00pm. You can explore the village and shops/restaurants or grab a snack and hit the trails. An excellent map is available at the harbor when you arrive (donation $1) . We liked the map as it described each trail in terms of walkability and time and suggested trails for day-trippers on a time budget. The Island Museum is a special gift. A quick walk through will take at least 45 mins., but you could easily spend a couple of hours or more viewing a reading about life on the island over the years. (Admission $10/adult) It's a short but uphill walk and sits next to the island's lighthouse. We took trail #7 to the museum when we arrived, but it was not open until mid-day, so we continued on #7 to the opposite side of the island and spectacular views of the coast from both sea level and (for good climbers) more spectacular views from the cliffs (160' up). We took the #7 trail back, passed the museum and arrived to it being open so we got both done! Still had time for lunch at the Novelty and a nice walk back to the dock in plenty of time! Except for restaurants it's pick it in /pack it out rules for trash. There are public restrooms for a fee.
