点评:We have just got back from a brilliant 9 day summer holiday in Zell Am See with our children aged 8 and 11. We stayed at Der Waldorf hotel which was a good base with a really large modern family room. There are 2 types of cards provided by hotels in Zell Am See. Guest Mobility Cards and Summer Cards. The Guest Mobility Card enables you to access public transport free in the Salzburg area - you can even get the train to Salzburg for the day without charge (1.5 hours away). This card also gives you around a 10% discount on cable cars and tourist attractions. The Summer Card enables you to get into a lot of tourist attractions and cable cards free. At the Waldorf hotel only the guest mobility card is provided. The Stadt Wien Hotel next door provides the Summer Card as well - this would have saved us around £600 on our holiday. Both hotels are a pleasant 10-15 minute walk uphill from the town centre which affords them lovely views. These were the day trips we did:
1. CityXpress Cable Car from Zell Am See town centre. Once at the top we walked to the Plettsaukopf reservoir then took the 53 route back down the mountain to the lake (took us around 2 hours). Once you get to the road by the lake/train track turn right and walk 100 metres down the slope. Cross over the road to the Zell Am See Seespitz bus stop get the 70 or 660 bus back into Zell Am See. Alternatively, If you don't want to do the route 53, you could walk down towards the AreitXpress and do the Schmidolin's trail (see below).
2. Schmidolin’s Adventure World - Get the 660 bus from Zell Am See Postplatz to the Schüttdorf Areitbahn stop (around 10-15 minutes) and take the AreitXpress cable car up the mountain. Before you get on the cable car make sure to get an activity sheet and buy a wooden marble from the InfoCenter areitXpress. The trail is a circular activity trail that starts from the areitXpress stop. You can also access it from the CityXpress cable car but it would involve extra hiking.
3. Alpine Coaster/ Sigmund Thun Gorge - Get the 660 bus from Zell Am See Postplatz to the Maiskogelbahn stop in Kaprun (around 25 minutes). Get tickets for the Alpine Coaster at the Cable Car Station. Make sure to do this activity in the morning as there are no queues. In an afternoon expect queues of around 45 minutes. There are also large slides by the Alpine Coaster which my kids enjoyed (€1/slide). Get back on the 660 bus at the stop you alighted towards kaprun kesselfall get off at Sigmund-Thun-Klamm (about 10 minutes). Walk along the gorge (small charge) then at the end do the 30 minute circular walk around the Klammsee Reservoir - there is a cafe and playground half way round.
4. Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Get the 660 bus from Zell Am See Postplatz to the Maiskogelbahn stop in Kaprun (around 25 minutes). Get the MK Maiskogelbahn to the top of the Glacier (there are 4 different cable cars in total that you need to get to reach the summit - these are all covered in the same ticket and it takes about 1 hour to get to the top). There are lovely cafes/play areas at the cable car stations on the way up/down that you can stop at. Once at the top there is a viewing platform and a tobogganing area (free - just wait at the bottom of the slope for someone who is finishing with a sled)
5. High Mountain Reservoirs. Get the 660 bus from Zell Am See Postplatz to Kesselfall (last stop - around 45 minutes). You are then taken by bus/lift/bus to the Mooserboden reservoir (takes about 30 minutes). We then did the stunning 40 minute (took us an hour) walk down to the mid level reservoir/small petting farm/restaurant.
6. Thumersbach Lido. If you get a hot day have a swim in the lake at the Thumersbach Lido. Take the 70 bus from Zell Am See Postplatz towards Thumersbach Mitterbergweg - Don't make the mistake we did and get it in the wrong direct towards Bruckberg Gewerbestraße. Get off at the Thumersbach Strandbad Erlberg stop (5-10 minutes. The stop is located just past the hospital). You can hire loungers, deck chairs and parasols at the Lido, although they do run out so you need to get there early. They don't provide towels. If you don't want to get the bus to the Lido you could always cycle or walk. The Der Waldorf hotel had free bike hire.
