点评:The bus was on time, the staff polite but a bit pushy at the dock. The bus was clean, the stops noted.
BUT the stops don’t make sense, as a tourist you don’t really know where you are, so when they say the stop has an art gallery, you expect it to have one. We didn’t see it- the driver let us out and said it’s up there on the left but all we saw was a building site.
The bus stops at an aviation centre, shopping centre in Mt Maunganui, an historic house, the ‘art gallery’/building site, which is a 30 minute walk to the main centre of Tauranga, and then a historic village, 30 minutes + walk the other side of the main centre of Tauranga. Bad luck if you want to go to the city centre. The bus only goes one way - you can hop on and off but not go backwards.
My main gripe is the price. It would cost about $39 via Uber to get to the last stop, so at $60 per head for the bus, as soon as there’s more than one of you it is likely to be more convenient to Uber than to use the hop on / off bus.
Finally, the commentary! A looong whinge to a captive audience about the new high rise developments, the cost of housing in the area, the shame of selling old houses, a blow by blow account of failed marine initiatives, and not a single word about the historical significance of the different areas we drove through, or the historic house, or how the area was settled and when, nothing about local art or crafts, or things that we might like see in the area.
Overall- I would not bother.
