点评:My wife and I had such a great time with the Farm Tour at Waipa this week! This place, located just west of Hanalei, is owned by Kamehameha Schools and operated by the Waipa Foundation. Though we've been coming to its Farmer's Market (2:00 pm Tuesdays) for many years, we've never done this before, and wow are we glad we did! We started off with a breakfast orientation with fresh local fruit and superb banana bread. The young women who lead the tours are exceptionally knowledgeable about all aspects of the property and can explain all sorts things about taro agriculture, the sustainable farming practices going on here, and can provide the name (both Hawaiian and English) and traditional use of practically every plant, bush and tree. You'll see lots of different birds, fish and invertebrates and our wonderful guide Emma related stories about most of them. She's a born teacher. The finale was a delicious lunch: grilled ahi (tuna), fresh kale salad (I normally don't care for kale but this was fantastic), beets, taro fritters and macadamia nut ice cream. We've been on a lot of farm tours over our several decades of coming to Kauai and this at Waipa was one of the very best.
