OVERPRICED DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!! CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY
Moorea Underwater Experience的点评
点评：If swimming with humpback whales is the primary reason you're booking a tour, I would personally RECOMMEND OTHER operators before booking this one.
We booked a $2,300 8-hour private whale excursion with Angie. Our disappointment was not simply that we didn't see enough whales. It was that, throughout the day, Angie DID NOT demonstrate the whale-spotting, approach, or positioning skills we expected from someone presenting herself as experienced with whales.
Rather than actively searching for whales, we felt that much of the day was spent following other boats that had already found whales. When whales were located, we repeatedly spent the time waiting and felt that the boat was not positioned appropriately based on the whale's direction of travel or where it was likely to surface.
IN 8 HOURS WE ONLY HAD ONE meaningful opportunity, even though there were a fair amount of whales out. That encounter happened because our videographer spotted the whale. Otherwise our experience would have been even more limited.
Because we were so disappointed, WE BOOKED TWO ADDITIONAL whale excursions WITH OTHER OPERATORS on the following days.
WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE WEREN'T SIMPLY BEING UNREALISTIC OR EXPECTING TOO MUCH from a wild animal experience with Moorea Underwater Experience.
THE DIFFERENCE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DRAMATIC.
Both OTHER OPERATORS actively searched for whales, patiently read their movements, and positioned the boat so that we could enter the water in the appropriate location and be near the whale when it surfaced. We had multiple meaningful encounters within a short period of time with other tour operators.
We experienced firsthand what a skilled whale guide can do to maximize the opportunity for an encounter while still respecting the animals.
Those two tour experiences CONFIRMED for us that OUR DISAPPOINTMENT with Moorea Underwater Experience was not simply a matter of luck or the whales being unpredictable. But a lack of knowledge on how to spot whales and position ourselves.
We were also disappointed when, after we had not yet had a meaningful whale encounter, Angie suggested spending part of our day swimming with sharks and stingrays. Those activities may be enjoyable, but we paid $2,300 for an 8-hour private whale excursion because our priority was humpback whales, not to swim with shark and stingrays.
Another issue was being instructed to wash the sunscreen off our faces before entering the water. We followed that advice because we trusted our captain/guide, in reality we should have listened to our gut and not removed the sunscreen! Both of us subsequently suffered sunburns on our faces and were uncomfortable for several days.
We contacted Angie privately after the trip and explained our concerns. We even WAITED TO MAKE A FINAL JUDGEMENT UNTIL AFTER EXPERIENCING TWO OTHER OPERATORS. We requested a partial refund, not a full refund, because we felt the service and experience fell significantly short of what we paid for. Angie declined to offer any refund.
I can only speak to our tour, but for us, this was a very disappointing experience and did not come close to what we expected from a $2,300 8-hour private whale excursion.
