点评:We visited Széchenyi Thermal Baths in Budapest expecting a relaxing, enjoyable spa experience. Instead, we were met with one of the most disappointing and unhygienic facilities I have ever visited. At €44 per person, it was an absolute disgrace and a complete waste of money.
The cleanliness was appalling. There was debris floating in the pool water, and the pool tiles looked as though they hadn’t been properly cleaned in years. Some of the pools had an overpowering smell of urine, which was enough to put us off getting into the water altogether.
The entire facility looked tired, neglected and desperately in need of refurbishment. Paint and render were peeling and falling off the walls, and the general condition of the building was shocking for somewhere charging premium prices.
The toilets and showers were equally disgusting. They smelt foul, appeared unhygienic and were certainly not what you would expect from a supposedly prestigious spa. During our visit, we didn’t see a single cleaner maintaining the facilities.
There was absolutely nothing relaxing about the experience. There weren’t any suitable places to lie down and unwind, no relaxing background music, and the atmosphere was more like a library than a luxury thermal spa. It completely lacked the ambience you would expect.
To make matters worse, towels cost approximately €16 each, and you had to purchase them rather than simply hire them. Given the already excessive entrance fee, this felt like another opportunity to squeeze money out of visitors.
Even the restaurant was disappointing, serving food on paper plates with plastic spoons. Hardly the experience you would expect at one of Budapest’s most famous thermal baths.
There were six of us in our group, meaning we spent approximately €264 on admission alone. We were so disgusted by the condition of the facilities that we left after just one hour, without properly enjoying the pools.
What should have been one of the highlights of our trip to Budapest turned into one of the biggest disappointments.
My advice: Save your money and go elsewhere. Széchenyi may look impressive in the promotional photographs, but our experience was of a dirty, poorly maintained, overpriced tourist attraction that falls well short of acceptable hygiene standards.
I genuinely cannot understand how a facility charging these prices can allow its standards to deteriorate to this extent.
We felt completely ripped off and would never return.
