An iconic Budapest experience that’s worth seeing once
赛切尼浴场&泳池的点评
点评：Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of Budapest’s signature attractions and something I think every first-time visitor should experience. The grand yellow Neo-Baroque architecture is beautiful, and soaking in the outdoor pools surrounded by the historic buildings is undeniably memorable.
We arrived around 9:00 a.m. with the Fast Pass and private cabin package. In hindsight, I don’t think the Fast Pass was worth the extra cost. There wasn’t much of a line to enter; the challenge wasn’t getting in, it was that the baths were already packed. Every outdoor lounger was occupied, forcing us to leave our towels on a shared bench.
The private cabin is more of a personal preference than a necessity. It was nice having a private place to change and the peace of mind of locking up our belongings, but the atmosphere felt very safe. We never got the impression that theft was a concern, and many guests appeared perfectly comfortable leaving their things unattended.
The large outdoor thermal pools were easily the highlight, especially the circular whirlpool current, which was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the indoor areas were much less appealing. While I appreciate that the historic, worn appearance is part of the character, many of the interior pools and facilities simply felt dated and, at times, not particularly hygienic. We ended up cutting our visit short because we found the indoor environment less inviting than expected.
Overall, I’m glad we went because it’s one of Budapest’s iconic experiences, but it’s very much a “see it once” destination for us. If you visit, arrive early, skip the Fast Pass unless entry lines are expected to be unusually long, consider whether a cabin is worth the added cost for your travel style, and plan to spend most of your time enjoying the outdoor pools, which are by far the best part of the complex.
