点评：This late Gothic church is older than the larger Szent Istvan Bazilika (St. Stephen's Basilica) and was originally built in the 12th century. It was extensively rebuilt and refurbished in the 19th century but with a determined attempt to keep the older style. While the interior of Saint Stephen's is baroque the interior of Matthias seeks an Eastern European medieval look crossed with Art Nouveau; more painted patterns, delicate columns and stained glass windows. Every surface is colourfully decorated. I appreciated being able to access the higher walkways with all their intricate rooms, walkways and close up views of the church ceiling and columns from above. It is much more difficult to get external views of the church as it is hemmed in by other buildings. You get beautiful views of the colourful roof from Fisherman's Bastion.
