Options to get to the Castle ! TAKE THE 216 or 16 BUS

点评：I think everybody else has said this is a MUST do in Budapest- just glorious, but how do you get there. Let’s assume you are at the bottom- and can see the funicular.
Funicular- single trip one way 4500HUF (approx Euro12/USD14/AUD20)
Walk- OK if young and fit, or older and fit, but it is a bit of a walk and approx 123m vertical climb)
but if you have a public transport ticket-
for as little as 500HUF (Euro1.40/USD1.60/AUD2.20) you can take a bus TO THE TOP!
Google maps repeatedly gave me directions to take the bus, get off at the funicular, and then walk or pay for funicular. However if you look at the rout maps- the 216 and 16 ( and 16A) go right up to the top. You need to get off at the top parking lot if you are on the 216, but the 16 and 16A go right past the castle. I bought a monthly pass 8950HUF as we are here for 4 full days and 2 travelling days and buying 2 x 72hr passes 5750HUF x2 was more expensive.
We are catching public transport everywhere, convenient and regular. We are still walking 10km per day, but better than some of the 20km marathon days we have done. Having the travel pass allows us to make mistakes, and see different areas.
Budapest castle a MUST do, and I think we will hit it early morning, day and night as the bus is so convenient. It is spectacular, but not cost prohibitive if using day pass or longer.
