点评:The National Park (better rendered as Þingvellir) is a key point in the Golden Circle. The portions that receive most attention are the lake Þingvallavatn, and the rift valley where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are separating. There is a sizeable visitor centre and well-maintained paths, emphasising the geological and political significance of the region as the birthplace of Icelandic statehood. The landscape is dramatic, with fine views and a range of Icelandic flowers and wildlife (including Harlequin Ducks if one is fortunate). Everything is impressive but, as sadly with many other other key sites in southern (especially southeast) Iceland, we were constantly aware of the crowds - midsummer is a very popular time for tourists. Thus anyone searching for wilderness and pristine landscape will be disappointed. It has to be admitted that the Golden Circle, and other sites further east along the south coast, take most of the tourist pressure and, as such, probably protect true wilderness further north and in the interior.
