点评:We travelled through London Gatwick Airport with Special Assistance for our son, who has additional needs and relies on low-stimulation environments when travelling.
On previous trips, the sensory room made a huge difference and allowed him to cope really well with the airport. However, during travel last August we were told the sensory room was closed, and travelling without it a couple of weeks later was extremely difficult for him.
I have recently contacted Special Assistance again and have been told the room is still closed, with no clear explanation and no indication of when it will reopen.
What is particularly concerning is that:
* The sensory room is still being advertised as available
* We were not informed at the time of booking Special Assistance that it was unavailable
* Staff are unable to give clear or consistent information
This is not just a minor issue — families rely on this facility to travel safely with children who have additional needs. Without it, the airport environment can become overwhelming very quickly.
If the sensory room is not available, this needs to be clearly communicated in advance, along with suitable alternatives.
At the moment, there is a clear gap between what is being advertised and what is actually available.
