点评:I knew virtually nothing about the Shakers before going to the Hancock Shaker village, apart from the fact they design rather nice kitchens. Having spent a happy afternoon here I now know so much more. The staff were all helpful and friendly and we particularly enjoyed the Shaker songs and dancing - pretty much a must-do if you want to really understand them.
One negative for me was the farm animals. They were kept in very small pens with nothing of any interest and looked very bored. I am a vegetarian so I am sensitive to animal welfare and although I'm sure they were better than on most commercial farms I would like to have seen them have more space (the chickens were free roaming and looked quite happy.) If you wouldn't leave your dog in a small pen then don't leave a pig in one either.
