Disappointed in Varenna. The staircase to our room was unsafe and dreary. Not what we expected when we booked.

点评：We booked a holiday rental with Varenna Holidays for a wedding we were attending at Villa Capressi. The picture showed 10 steps leading to the unit. On arrival the entrance to the stairway was a construction site. There were 40 stairs, in disrepair and without handrails in most of the stairway, to get to our room. There was no number on the unit. This was not noted on the paperwork or the pictures given to us. I tried the key and it worked!
There was a Pescheria (an establishment that receives and cleans fish) on the level below us. The fish were delivered at 230 am, we heard the arrival and they cleaned until mid morning. They were friendly, but it reeked of fish. The construction that was indicated on the entrance to our stairs began with a jack hammer going at 745 our first morning. When I approached the rental office about our disappointment with our accommodations they asked what they could do. I said we wanted another unit. They didn't have anything available but they could put us in another town! An obvious non starter as we had no vehicle and the wedding was in Varenna! they made no other suggestions. No offer was made for a refund for a portion. We felt as if this was a bait and switch. Found the staff was indifferent to our complaint. FYI the Varenna Holiday office that was across the street from our unit had beautiful flowers in a container at their door, our entrance had a construction sign, an old broom and a ladder.
