点评:When you get down to it, the Mattress Factory exhibits about four or five pieces of contemporary art on each of its three floors of space. And given the nature of the art currently on display, that sums to approximately 12-15 pieces of art in total by about five different artists altogether. So, is it worth the expedition to see their work? The art is always interesting: conceptual pieces that turn subterranean vibrations outside the range of human sensitivity into vibrating light images; polka dot and mirrored displays of female mannequins; an orange "square" projected onto the corner of a darkened room; a few other equally off-the-beaten-track pieces. I didn't think any of these were beautiful: but then again, I doubt the artists were going for beauty, they were aiming for interesting, though-provoking, or arresting. And, yes: they achieved that. The staff sitting by each exhibit were friendly and interesting/informative to speak with. I spent about 1-1/2 hours happily engrossed and came away pleased. Definitely a worthwhile stop if you have an otherwise engrossing itinerary for your Pittsburgh sojourn. It makes for a memorable exclamation point.
