点评：Agni Theertham is one of the most important sacred water bodies associated with Ramanathaswamy Temple. Rameswaram is believed to have sixty-four holy “theerthams” or sacred water bodies, out of which twenty-two are located inside the temple complex itself. Devotees believe that bathing in these theerthams is an act of spiritual purification and an important part of the pilgrimage.
Among all the theerthams, Agni Theertham holds special significance. It is situated on the eastern seashore directly opposite the temple and is essentially a bathing ghat along the Bay of Bengal. Pilgrims traditionally begin their ritual by taking a dip here before proceeding inside the temple for bathing in the 22 sacred kunds (wells).
Because of its religious importance and continuous flow of devotees, the place remains crowded almost throughout the day. Due to the large number of pilgrims bathing there regularly, the area can also appear somewhat untidy and less clean.
